Captain's Notes

This Starfire has the feel of a boat that’s been set up by an angler who actually fishes hard, not just talks about it. The 17-foot hull gives you a stable, confident platform when it’s choppy, but it’s still small enough to launch and retrieve solo. Wide, clutter-free side decks leave room to work lines or fight a fish around the bow. The open cockpit layout and movable pedestal seats make it easy to switch from trolling spreads to casting jigs. High, secure sides keep crews comfortable, and the windshield offers welcome protection on cold early-morning runs. Storage is thoughtfully placed so tackle, nets, and safety gear are always within reach instead of underfoot.

Why Starfire 1700 in Michigan

The Starfire 1700 shines on inland lakes and nearshore waters where conditions can change quickly. Its deep, predictable hull tracks well in quartering chop and doesn’t get pushed around when you’re setting long trolling passes. It’s an easy tow for midsize vehicles, so hopping between different launches is straightforward. The size is ideal for slipping into tighter ramps and shallow channels while still giving you enough beam to run multiple lines without feeling crowded. For anglers who split time between jigging structure, drifting live bait, and trolling breaks, this model offers the versatility and comfort to cover water efficiently and stay out when the wind picks up.
