Description

"Argonaut" is a classic rigged ketch. She has a full keel with a cutaway forefoot. She is ready for a day sail or an around-the-world cruise. Meticulously maintained and kept under a full cover in the winter months. Ready to sail away to start your cruising adventures. Three berths and a head with a tiled shower. A pilot berth with a lee cloth for those overnight passages. A very cozy and warm interior and classic teak decks and coaming.

Captain's Notes

Step aboard and you immediately feel that heavy-displacement confidence underfoot—solid, quiet, and purposeful. The helm is light for a traditional cruiser, and the ketch rig keeps sail areas manageable, so you’re never overpowered when the breeze pipes up. Forward, the bowsprit and substantial ground tackle make anchoring feel secure, even in a crowded harbor. Storage is generous throughout; lockers swallow cruising gear, spares, and provisions without feeling cluttered. Ventilation is excellent, with opening ports and hatches that keep the cabin fresh at anchor. On deck, high bulwarks and stout lifelines give you a safe, protected working space, while wide, unobstructed side decks make sail changes and reefing calm, deliberate affairs instead of acrobatics.

Why Hans Christian Ketch in Washington

This Hans Christian ketch shines in waters where conditions can change quickly and passages mix short hops with longer stretches offshore. The full keel tracks steadily in a sloppy chop, and the heavy displacement smooths out the ride when afternoon winds build. The split rig lets you fine-tune canvas for gusty days, sailing comfortably under jib and mizzen or reefed main without losing balance. Generous tankage and deep storage mean you can provision for extended cruising without constant marina stops. When the weather turns cool and damp, the enclosed, warm cabin becomes a refuge, while the protected cockpit keeps crew secure on those longer, night-sail legs between anchorages.
